Water is essential for your body. It does more than keep you hydrated. It can help you be more academically successful. How? Keep on reading to learn how hydration influences your education.

You Need Water Because…

Almost every process that goes on in your body involves water. Water helps regulate your body temperature, build cells, and cleanse your insides. Fifty to seventy percent of our body is made up of water. Our brain is made up of around 80 percent water! That should give you an idea of why hydration is necessary for your brain power. Without water, your brain power can plummet, as it is essential for every neurological transmission. Dehydration can make it hard for your brain to receive and transmit information. It can also decrease your ability to concentrate and memorize information, two elements that are pretty important when you’re trying to learn something.

Look out for the Clear Signs of Dehydration

You probably consider thirst the first sign of dehydration, but you’re wrong. By the time you start feeling thirsty you’ve already lost 2-3 percent of your body’s water. It might not seem like a lot, but just a single percent of lost water decreases your mental performance and physical coordination. Other visible signs of dehydration include dizziness, trouble focusing, tiredness, a dry and sticky mouth, headaches, and cramping. You should drink some water or eat fresh fruit to replenish your liquids. When dealing with dehydration, sugary drinks won’t do you any good. Try to drink the recommended six to eight daily glasses of water to prevent dehydration.
